Trump calls Canadian PM 'dishonest and weak'

Donald Trump took to Twitter after the G7 summit accusing Justin Trudeau of dishonesty

"It's going to stop, or we'll stop trading with them", the president said at a news conference on the second day of the G7 summit in Quebec. Trudeau again denounced Trump's decision to invoke national security concerns to impose tariffs on aluminium and steel as "insulting" to the Canadian war veterans who had fought alongside U.S. allies. "We're not looking to play games", Trump added. Kudlow suggested Trump saw Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president won't "let a Canadian prime minister push him around".

"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said at a news conference.

He tweeted that he would not now endorse the communique due to "false statements" from the Canadian PM.

The U.S. president left before the end of the summit and will fly to Singapore for a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which he described as a "mission of peace". India has been protesting vehemently against the move but the scenario has not changed even after taking the matter to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

But in an apparent nod to Trump, it also pledged to push for swift reforms to the World Trade Organisation which the United States president has said has been a "disaster" for his country. He said he'd probably know within the first minute of his sit-down with Kim whether he can make a deal. Morneau said progress is being made, but more work needs to be done to conclude the negotiations. "With one country we have $375 billion in trade deficits". Trudeau had announced on June 1 that Toronto will levy tariffs on United States products worth about $13 billion (approximately Rs 87,426 crore) from next month.

"And that ends", he said, according to a report by New York Times. There is nothing they can say. We are talking to many countries, we are talking to all countries."And it's going to stop".

Europe's answer must be to stick even closer together, defend its interests and strengthen alliances with countries such as Japan and Canada, Maas said. Canada has promised retaliatory measures on July 1.

The letter comes on the day of the Group of 7 (G-7) summit amid heightened conflict between Trump and other G-7 members over the tariffs and following Trump's suggestion that Russian Federation be reinstated into the group.

The G7 joint communique, which advocates a "rules-based trading system", was reached despite tension over U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, reported BBC. Trump had at one point proposed that G7 nations eliminate all tariffs, barriers and subsidies.

A German government official said the plan would see direct talks between the European Union and the USA start straight away, and last around two weeks, focused on how much, or whether, European Union trade policy endangers US national security interests.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said.

Disagreement over the sunset clause was the deal breaker that scuttled a possible meeting between Trump and Trudeau in Washington late last month in an attempt to bring the NAFTA talks to a conclusion.

While making the abovementioned statement, Trump explained that unfair practices ultimately hurt the U.S. farmers.

Trudeau refused, and the meeting was off. "I think it would be good for all of the countries of the current G7". "Very dishonest & weak", he said of the Canadian leader. The top source is the other NAFTA member, Mexico. "I think it would be good for the world".

Charles Schumer, N.Y., also tweeted their opposition to Trump.

Pierre Lampron, the president of Dairy Farmers of Canada, shot back at Trump's claims about his industry.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to pull out of NAFTA if the agreement is not renegotiated in way that he views as more favorable for US companies and workers.
