Japan, Senegal fans help clean up World Cup stadiums

Watch for Colombia to make World Cup statement vs. Japan

Senegal recorded the first African win at the 2018 World Cup when they beat Poland 2-1.

Three minutes into the match, Colombia's Carlos Sanchez blocked the ball heading for an open goal with his outstretched arm and got a straight red card.

Combined with the 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia on June 14, the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts are now on the top of its Group A with six points.

Japanese fans are making headlines for staying behind to clean up a Russian stadium after their team's win against Colombia (2-1) at the World Cup on Tuesday night. The goals were also scored by M'baye Niang on the 60th minute and Poland's Grzegorz Krychowiak on the 86th minute.

The television viewer rating for the group-stage match stood at an average 42.8 percent for the first half and 48.7 percent for the second half in the Kanto region centered on Tokyo, according to ratings agency Video Research Ltd.

It was also the first time in history that a team's first foul in a World Cup match has led to a sending-off.

This is the first World Cup since 1974 in which four South American teams have failed to win their opening game.

A number of clips capturing the post-match clean-up, after the majority of fans had left the stadium, were posted and shared on social media, earning the Japanese supporters widespread praise and high fives from the few remaining Colombia supporters, sporting the nation's striking yellow colours.

The second games in Group B happen tonight with Portugal facing Morocco at midnight and surprise table-toppers Iran meeting Spain at 6am.
