Apple and Samsung End Lengthy Patent Battle

This is what smartphones looked like before the iPhone

Cupertino-based Apple and Samsung agreed Wednesday to settle their long-running dispute over design and utility patent-infringement allegations at the U.S. District Court of Northern California in San Jose.

However, the terms of settlement weren't disclosed, and it's unclear who's coming out on top.

"I truly hope that Apple Legal will be given the green light by Tim Cook to sue Android OEM's or Google themselves over the "Slide to Unlock" feature - because it was considered a "breakthrough" feature by Apple's executive team and Android shouldn't be able to copy it without effect". When the dust settled, Apple last month was awarded $539 million in damages, a figure far below the $1 billion sought by Apple and far above the $28 million Samsung was willing to pay.

KitGuru Says: Given that Apple and Samsung ended the rest of its legal battles in 2014, this marks the end of the ongoing conflict between the two companies.

In 2012, a Jury said that Samsung had to pay Apple over a billion dollars for copying aspects of the iPhone, but that penalty was later reduced by $450 million.

Erdoğan declares victory in Turkish presidential vote
Election turnout nationwide was very high at around 87 percent for both contests, the state broadcaster said. More than 59 million Turkish citizens, including three million living overseas , were eligible to vote .

"We believe deeply in the value of design, and our teams work tirelessly to create innovative products that delight our customers".

The news, which was reported first by Bloomberg, reveals that LG Display will initially supply between two to four million OLED screens to Apple, and these screens will be used in one new iPhone model in 2018, reportedly the much-rumoured 6.5-inch edition, before then being adopted in even greater number in 2019.

A tribunal in May instructed Samsung to pay Apple $539 million for transgressing on its patents.

As previously reported "FACTS", the trial began in 2011 when Apple accused Samsung that it infringed the intellectual property of the company, including patents and trademarks. It is important that we continue to protect the hard work and innovation of so many people at APPLE.

Samsung, however, claimed that the compensation should only take parts into consideration and not the entire smartphones.
