Scott Pruitt Steps Down From EPA

White House looking into Scott Pruitt using staff for personal use

President Donald Trump says he has accepted the resignation of scandal-plagued Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt.

But Mr Pruitt has been embroiled in allegations of ethics violations for months, including issues with his travel and security expenses and a condo arrangement.

Despite President Trump's promises that he defends the Renewable Fuel Standard, Pruitt acted repeatedly to undercut the biofuel law. Mr. Pruitt joins the ranks of former Trump administration officials forced to resign in disgrace, raising questions about why Mr. Trump hired them in the first place.

"Scott Pruitt was the worst EPA administrator in the history of the agency". As Oklahoma's former attorney general, he waged a legal fight against environmental rules implemented by the agency he eventually would head. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., the panel's former chairman and a political mentor to both Pruitt and Wheeler. Inhofe hailed Wheeler's ascension to EPA chief.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt listens to questions as he testifies before the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, April 26, 2018. Wheeler acknowledged he attended but said he couldn't remember any details.

Illegal immigrant arrested for 78-square-mile Colorado fire
Quickly changing his story, he then said he didn't know how the fire started, according to arrest papers obtained Monday. No historic sites or cultural landmarks are now threatened by the fire .

But despite boasts of slashing red tape and promoting job creation, Pruitt had a mixed record of producing real-world results.

Pruitt announced his resignation on Thursday, following a barrage of ethics and spending scandals that have overshadowed his time as EPA chief. He had also enlisted his staff to contact conservative groups and companies to find a lucrative job for his unemployed wife, including emails seeking a Chick-fil-A franchise from a senior executive at the fast-food chain. But he told The Washington Post, which first uncovered the blog post past year, that he came to support Trump later in 2016, after Rubio exited the race, when Trump spoke at an event hosted by coal mining company Murray Energy Corp., one of his lobbying clients.

Pruitt is the subject of 14 separate federal probes into his alleged misconduct and misspending. And while he heralded Pruitt's resignation, he said it was "long overdue".

Jennifer Kaplan, a spokesperson for EPA Inspector General Arthur Elkins, said Thursday that the office was "assessing and evaluating" its ongoing audits and investigations in the wake of Pruitt's departure.

"His policy actions as administrator don't cost him in this state. We'll give him the opportunity to tell his side of the story".
