Ex-Trump aide Manafort goes on trial in Russian Federation probe

Paul Manafort trial offers glimpse into what Robert Mueller actually has in his investigation

Although the case against Manafort has little to do with his time running the president's campaign, it will give the public its most detailed glimpse of evidence Mueller's team has spent the year accumulating.

This tweet also begs the question: does Trump sympathize with Al Capone?

While prosecutors are not expected to address the question of possible collusion between Mr Trump and Russia, Mr Manafort's case is widely viewed as a test to the legitimacy of Mr Mueller's ongoing probe, which Mr Trump has continually dismissed as a "witch hunt".

The prosecution called both Ronald Wall, the chief financial officer of the House of Bijan, and Maximillian Katzman, the former manager of the New York City-based Alan Couture, to the witness stand on the second day of the trial against Manafort.

Another man brought a John Grisham novel into the courtroom. "Obviously, that's very risky for him".

Mueller has indicted or secured guilty pleas from 32 people and three companies, including 12 people court documents described as Russian intelligence agents who hacked into Democratic Party computer networks. There are also four alternates, three women and a man.

Manafort is accused of financial crimes in connection with political lobbying work her performed in Ukraine.

Jurors are expected to see photographs of his Mercedes-Benz and of his Hampton property putting green and swimming pool.

The judge's sarcasm-memos aren't likely to be leafed through during testimony regardless-was prescient.

So far, the jurors have not been shown much beyond Manafort's lavish spending habits and how he made his fortune as a political consultant from 2005 to 2014 for Ukrainian politician Viktor Yanukovych, who became president in 2010.

The shares barely budged on the announcement, which Levatich hinted would be coming when the company released earnings last week. Capital investments of United States dollars 225 to USD 275 million is lined up through 2022, the company said in a statement .

But prosecutors also found themselves hemmed in by Ellis, who at one point told lawyers he had heard they were rolling their eyes after conversations with him at the bench and warned them to "rein in your facial expressions", according to multiple reports from the room.

"Paul Manafort traveled in circles that most people will never know and he's gotten handsomely rewarded for it", Zehnle said.

But once Mueller's Russian Federation investigation ends, Giuliani told Reuters: "He has a right to consider it".

In the Washington case, a federal judge last month ordered Mr Manafort be jailed after Mr Mueller charged him with witness-tampering, charges to which he pleaded not guilty. And they won't learn that Manafort's co-defendant in the Washington case is a business associate named Konstantin Kilimnik, who lives in Russia and who US authorities assert has connections to Russian intelligence.

Outside the courthouse, a handful of protesters displayed a life-sized puppet of Mr Trump and held signs saying "Trump won't do time for you", "It's Mueller time", and "I like your new suit" alongside a photo of Mr Manafort's mug shot. But that isn't a focus of this trial.

Mueller has indicted a total of 32 people so far in connection with his probe into whether any members of Trump's election campaign colluded with Russian Federation to help get the NY real estate tycoon into the White House.

"I don't want a data dump", Judge Ellis said in front of a large courtroom packed with dozens of journalists, including from overseas publications.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after briefing members of the U.S. Senate on his investigation into potential collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, U.S., June 21, 2017.
