Samsung confirms plans to launch its foldable phone this year

Samsung Moves To Mid-Range Phones For Mobile Growth

CNBC has now reported that the mobile hardware giant has plans to unveil more details about a forthcoming foldable smartphone this year.

In an interview with CNBC, Samsung CEO DJ Koh stated that the Galaxy X foldable phone will launch later this year, but it might not be available worldwide at the same time, so some parts of the world could get the model in 2019.

On November 7, Samsung's Developer Conference will kick off and the company will further show off its Bixby-powered speaker called Galaxy Home. "If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it?"

The Galaxy X has been kept secret, but what we do know is that it is a foldable device that, when closed, will produce a smartphone that is thicker than a standard flagship like the iPhone X or Galaxy S9. By differentiating mid-range devices, Koh said, they'll be able to achieve this goal.

Barnier says no-deal Brexit is possible despite market optimism
Raab said he is "confident, if not more confident", they would reach a deal by then, although he declined to give the odds. He said: "With no backstop, there will be no agreement".

Not much is known about the foldable phone, nicknamed the Galaxy X, except that it will likely be the size of a small tablet, be a little bulkier than a normal phone while folded, and that it will nearly certainly be pricey. Globally, smartphones sales are slowing down and Samsung is feeling the squeeze more than most.

Wait for Samsung's foldable smartphone, a much-hyped gadget, is finally over if the latest reports are believed to be true. It's just under four months before the end of 2018, and that means we should be seeing the first "innovative" Galaxy A handset anytime now. When folded, the device will also have a smaller visible front display, with cameras on the back. Why now, though? Samsung conducted consumer surveys on the topic and now feels confident there is a market for a folding phone (not to be confused with a flip phone). Overall Samsung is looking for the use-case which says "wow, this is the reason Samsung made it", simplified Koh.

ZTE recently released its Axon M smartphone which features two 5.2-inch displays, which can be used to show separate apps, or work together as a larger tablet display.
