Review underway for Russia probe documents ordered released

At one point, the president described Manafort as a "brave man" who "refused to break".

"Special counsels investigate crimes", he said.

On Wednesday, Trump said he's not anxious about Manafort's cooperation.

It is not clear from the statement when the declassification and release of the documents will occur. Page has since left the bureau and Strzok was sacked earlier this year by the FBI for his actions during the investigation; including moments where they discussed communications with the media and published stories, they considered using as a "pretext" to conduct more interviews of Trump campaign personnel.

Democrats immediately opposed the President's move, accusing him of abusing his power. "Any decision by your offices to share this material with the President or his lawyers willviolate longstanding Department of Justice policies".

Besides the FISA applications pages, the president is declassifying all Federal Bureau of Investigation reports documenting interviews in connection with the Page surveillance warrant and those documenting interviews with senior Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, who was in contact with Steele.

Trump appeared unconcerned Tuesday by the national security implications of the order, tweeting about a supportive congressman and saying, "Really bad things were happening, but they are now being exposed".

The office is located at 1850 Demming Way in Middleton, located about seven miles west of Madison and 90 miles west of Milwaukee. Judy Lahmers, a business analyst at WTS Paradigm, said she was working at her desk when she heard shots at around 10 a.m.

United States imposes new $200bn tariffs on China
Trump has also complained about America's gaping trade deficit - $336 billion past year - with China, its biggest trading partner. The USTR estimated that Chinese theft of intellectual property cost US companies between $225 billion and $600 billion annually.

"I don't see how anybody could have considered if they saw the whole record, would have considered Carter Page any kind of Russian agent", said King.

"The President has the full authority to declassify anything", Burr said. A footnote also disclosed a political motivation behind the Steele dossier and said the person behind it was likely looking for information to discredit Trump's campaign, but Trump did not order the vast majority of that portion of the October 2016 FISA declassified Monday.

After Manafort's guilty plea, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said in a first statement, "Once again an investigation has concluded with a plea having nothing to do with President Trump or the Trump campaign".

Warrants to monitor the communications of a suspected agent of a foreign power are a common tool in counterterrorism and counterintelligence investigations, but they're applied for before a secret court.

The June 2017 application was the last of four filed by the Justice Department in support of court orders allowing the monitoring of Page. But "to the extent there is discretion at the margins, if the government fears disclosure, particularly disclosure for political reasons, it will strain the system, and that's not good".

Mark Warner, the ranking member on the Senate Intelligence Committee, has read the underlying documents that Trump wants released, and he issued a stark warning following the White House's announcement: "Be careful what you wish for". Democrats later countered with their own memo.

"The President has directed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Justice (including the FBI) to provide for the immediate declassification of the following materials: 1. pages 10-12 and 17-34 of the June 2017 application to the FISA court in the matter of Carter W. Page; 2. all FBI reports of interviews with Bruce G. Ohr prepared in connection with the Russian Federation investigation; and 3. all FBI reports of interviews prepared in connection with all Carter Page FISA applications", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. It's also unclear if the multi-agency review now underway might find ways to withhold certain information or limit whatever damage, such as outing sources or scaring off would-be ones, that may arise from the release. "I commend President Trump for his decision to declassify numerous documents, including several redacted pages of the Carter Page FISA application and important messages relating to the Russian Federation investigation", Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., said in a statement.
