Instagram co-founders step down from company

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom, Mike Krieger reportedly step down

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg said: "Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents".

Systrom and Krieger have resigned from their posts as chief executive and chief technology officer respectively, not giving reasons and saying they planned to take time off, according to the Times. It was 2010 when Krieger and Systrom came to know each other.

There's no official word on what caused the Instagram founders to leave, although rumours hint at clashes between the two men and Facebook executives over diminishing independence and demands to direct more users from Instagram to Facebook.

He added: "Building new things requires that we step..."

The news of their departure comes from The New York Times, and is corroborated by a statement from Systrom. The two executives had different opinions on what content is shared between the two different platforms although more recently the tension became more heated and resulted in Zuckerberg pulling all of the links to Instagram from Facebook. Instagram has since been valued at 100 times that $1 billion acquisition price by Bloomberg Intelligence, a sizable return on investment on paper. Instagram is popular with teens and young people - a group fleeing Facebook in huge numbers. Jan Koum stepped down in April as CEO of messaging service WhatsApp, which Facebook bought in 2014 for $19 billion.

However, the 20-time English champions have notched up back to back victories over Burnley and Watford to build some momentum. Asked if Sanchez still has another level to reach, Mourinho added: "Every player has another level to step up".

Facebook bought the photo-sharing app for $1 billion in 2012. Its rapid growth and user engagement caught the eye of Facebook, which was on the lookout for any services that might threaten its dominance of the social network space.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what they build next", he said in a statement. The departure of the photo-sharing app's founders after six years as part of Mark Zuckerberg's social network isn't worrying on its own.

The company has started mentioning Instagram more frequently on its earnings calls and taking credit for its success.

Later, Systrom wrote in a blog post that they were planning on taking some time off to explore their curiosity and creativity. Marne Levine, who was previously Instagram's chief operating officer, left her role at Instagram this month to return to Facebook and lead partnerships. Virtual reality firm Oculus VR lost its co-founder Palmer Luckey in March 2017 amid a series of scandals and lawsuits.

Facebook's stock hasn't recovered from the hit, either.

Instagram, meanwhile, has remained a bright spot for the company.
