Saudi doctor accused of killing and dismembering journalist 'trained in Australia'

Erdogan meets with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at Esenboga International Airport in Ankara Turkey Oct. 17 2018

Trump said he hoped the Saudis' own investigation of Khashoggi's disappearance would be concluded in "less than a week".

The Washington Post published a column it received from his assistant after he was reported missing in which Khashoggi condemns the crackdown on journalists by Arab governments and the failure of the worldwide community to respond.

The Saudi consul general reportedly is heard on tape saying, "Do this outside; you're going to get me in trouble".

Washington Post late on Tuesday published passport scans of the suspects allegedly involved in the journalist's killing, while another report detailed close links between the suspects and the powerful crown prince accused of ordering the murder.

While Turkish police believe he was killed by a special team of 15 Saudi officials, Riyadh has dismissed such claims as baseless. Now several news outlets - in Turkey and the U.S. - have reported the existence of audio tapes which they say prove this.

While Washington may do everything in its power to protect its close relationship with Riyadh, it "may not be easy" when up against a storm of worldwide criticism over the Khashoggi case, Jatras noted.

In the column, Khashoggi, a Saudi citizen who went into self-imposed exile in the USA over the rise of the crown prince, also discussed the practice of Middle Eastern governments blocking internet access to control tightly the information their citizens can see.

Khashoggi noted how some journalists were imprisoned for speaking out against Arab governments as leaders exercised an apparent "free rein" to silence the media.

Earlier this week, former foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind called for Britain to impose sanctions against Saudi Arabia following the disappearance of a Saudi journalist.

But if you want to consider it "spying", they were only "spying" to make sure that the Red Sox were not spying. Cora said he has been concerned throughout the season about Red Sox signs being stolen.

Khashoggi's editor said the article "perfectly captures his commitment and passion for freedom in the Arab world".

"It is 500,000 jobs, it will be ultimately $110 billion, it's the biggest order in the history of our country from an outside military, and I said we are gonna turn that down?" he added.

And with that being said, Saudi Arabia has been a very important ally of ours in the Middle East.

"We encourage Turkish-Saudi collaboration and look forward to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducting a thorough, credible, transparent and prompt investigation, as announced", the spokesman said.

The Turkish team concluded its search for evidence in nine hours and left but returned to the Saudi Consulate to continue searching the premises.

The Trump administration has come under scrutiny for its response to the Khashoggi case.

According to a New York Times report, the money landed in American accounts on Tuesday and was for purported American efforts to stabilize areas in Syria liberated from the clutches of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said his plans to attend the Riyadh conference would be revisited on Thursday after US officials have a chance to consult Pompeo.
