US President Donald Trump suggests he will end birthright citizenship soon: Axios

Trump Is Planning to End Birthright Citizenship Through Executive Order

A portion of the interview was released on October 30, 2018.

Mr Trump revealed his intentions in an interview with American news site Axios, which has led to dispute over his presidential powers.

Jonathan Swan, Axios reporter: "On immigration some legal scholars believe you can get rid of birthright citizenship without changing the Constitution?"

Donald Trump plans to push an executive order to end the right of USA citizenship to children born in the United States to non-citizens and immigrants in the country illegally, he told Axios in an interview published on Tuesday, a move that would prompt a constitutional fight. "And it has to end". "You don't need that", Mr Trump said. "We are in the process". Congress has all but abandoned their duty to make law in this area, punting the ball to the executive branch where the application of the law varies with whoever happens to be occupying the White House in the moment. "That's what you're talking about".

President Donald Trump said he will seek to limit the right of citizenship for certain children born in the U.S. in a new bid to dramatically reshape immigration policies that was likely to spark a congressional battle.

Well, those days are over with as President Trump said he will use an executive order to suspend the 14th Amendment. The mainstream legal consensus is that a constitutional amendment would be required to change that. Polifiact cited data naming 33 countries with birthright citizenship.

This is a principal adopted by many countries around the world and is held within the United States constitution, which forms the basis of the entire government.

Addressed to former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan, it was found in the mail room of CNN's New York Bureau. Last week, one of the 13 pipe bombs that were sent to various Democratic public figures ended up at the CNN offices in NY .

The critical issue in interpreting the 14th Amendment lies in its exact wording, say some.

According to CNN, the President had during an interview with Fox News said that he would construct tent cities to house migrants travelling through Mexico to the United States southern border. "The only way to eliminate birthright citizenship would be through a new Constitutional amendment", he said. "I've always supported comprehensive immigration reform - and at the same time - the elimination of birthright citizenship", Graham explained on Twitter. The question then really becomes, can we treat children of illegal immigrants as being not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.

Anchor babies are children born to an illegal immigrant mother, who become United States citizens and are then used to bring in other family members living overseas.

Trump: "With an executive order". "The 14th Amendment's citizenship guarantee is clear".

Both the 14th Amendment and the INA include this clause.

It reads "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State where in they reside".
