Camera footage of Soyuz MS-10 launch failure released

The Soviet-designed Soyuz rocket failed on October 11 just minutes after blast-off

A day earlier, Sergei Krikalyov, a senior Roscosmos official, told reporters a malfunction of a sensor that signals the jettisoning one of the rocket's four side boosters caused the booster to collide with the second stage of the rocket.

Just yesterday the Russian space agency Roscosmos revealed that it has completed its investigation into the failure of its Soyuz rocket on a recent launch that was supposed to send two crew members to the International Space Station.

A Russian cosmonaut and USA astronaut were forced to abort their mission on October 11 after a rocket bound for the International Space Station failed, sending them plunging back to Earth in an emergency landing.

They landed safely on a steppe in Kazakhstan, but the aborted mission dealt another blow to the troubled Russian space program that serves as the only way to deliver astronauts to the orbiting outpost.

The Soyuz rocket launched at 08:40 local time (02:40 GMT) from the Baikanour cosmodrome site on 11 October when the malfunction occurred. Specifically, additional checks were introduced during preparation of the Soyuz 2.1B rocket, which was launched on October 25.

Russian officials believe that the defective component was damaged during assembly.

Fistfight at North Carolina high school ends in fatal shooting
The student who was shot on October 29 at Butler High School in North Carolina died from the gunshot wound, officials said. Multiple parents told local television channels that they felt confused and unsure about where to meet with their children.

The Russian rocket that carried two people to space last month failed and sent the craft back to Earth because of "deformation" of a part that was made during assembly at the cosmodrome, a space official said on November 1.

Roscosmos officials on Wednesday met with their counterparts from NASA to give them a full briefing on the malfunction, Roscosmos director general Dmitry Rogozin said Thursday.

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft is now the only vehicle for ferrying crews to the International Space Station after the USA space shuttle fleet retired.

Russian space officials say they hope to resume sending crews to the International Space Station on December 3 after an October launch failed because of a technical malfunction.

Accordingly, Roscosmos (the state-backed corporation managing Russian space missions) said it had taken steps to prevent a repeat and was returning to crewed missions relatively quickly. The U.S. companies SpaceX and Boeing are developing astronaut taxis under multibillion-dollar NASA contracts, and both vehicles are scheduled to make their first crewed test flights in the middle of next year.
