United States troops should treat rocks as ‘rifles’

Mexico's ambassador to US claims there are very violent migrants in caravan

A caravan of Central American migrants estimated to number at least 3,500 people left Honduras in mid-October and is now in southern Mexico on its way to the US border.

Mexico's U.S. Ambassador - Geronimo Gutierrez - is blasting Democrats for saying everyone in the migrant caravan are all peaceful refugees seeking asylum.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday told reporters his administration could send between 10,000 to 15,000 troops to the Southwest border, echoing Pentagon comments Tuesday that the Defense Department expects to send more than the 5,200 deployed this week.

Trump was to make his announcement during brief remarks Thursday afternoon, according to three people familiar with the plans. "They should apply to come into our country".

Mr Trump has been accused of playing up concerns over immigration to help drive up turnout among his supporters, with the Republican majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives on the line at next week's elections.

"It's a risky group of people", Trump said of the latest caravan of mostly impoverished Central Americans trying to walk through Mexico to the United States border.

For the first week of the caravan, Mexican federal police sometimes enforced obscure safety rules, forcing migrants off paid mini-buses, citing insurance regulations.

"They got a lot of rough people in these caravans". Operating under the "guise of citizen patrols" and pretending to be supporting border agents, vigilantes, the document says, were already noticed stealing from the National Guard.

As you might expect, migrants we talk to in Mexico insist they are honest, hard-working people desperate for a safer place with a better economy to provide for their families and improve their lives. And this week he is asserting he could act by executive order to unilaterally end birthright citizenship for the children of non-U.S. citizens.

"Trump is painting a word picture for his political base of troops arrayed along the border to hurl back invaders, when what he is really sending are mechanics, construction workers, planners, supply clerks and pilots who will be planning, building, supplying, flying and repairing", said CNN military analyst John Kirby. "Democrats want open borders, and they want to invite caravan after caravan into our country, which brings crime upon crime", Trump said at a campaign rally in Fort Myers, Florida, on Tuesday.

Navarrete told a news conference Wednesday that "Here we are talking about a humanitarian crisis of a lack of jobs, a lack of opportunities, and the use by third parties of a vulnerable population group like the migrants".

The administration has also been ramping up security at ports of entry this week.

The official added that verbal orders went out this past weekend to some units and additional written orders are starting Monday.

A further two caravans, smaller in size, have also formed. The 53-second spot includes expletives uttered by Bracamontes during his trial as he professed regret at not killing more officials.

President Donald Trump claimed that up to 15,000 United States troops could be sent to the border to deal with the group of approximately 3,500 migrants heading toward the U.S. through Mexico.

It was reminiscent of the infamous "Willie Horton" ad used against Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis in 1988 and condemned as racist.
