Canada sanctions 17 Saudis over Khashoggi murder

Backed by U.S. military hardware and logistics, the Saudi-led campaign in Yemen has resulted in a "tremendous starvation, the worst outbreak of cholera in modern history, and none of that seemed to move the elected officials in this country enough to do anything about it", Medea Benjamin, cofounder of the anti-war group Code Pink, told RT.

Mr Pompeo also addressed criticism of the administration's stance on the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Foggy Bottom and West End Advisory Neighborhood Commission proposed the legislation to honor Khashoggi, a former Virginia resident, who was assassinated in Istanbul last month at the orders of the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

"We have no smoking gun the crown prince was involved, not the intelligence community or anyone else".

"We have 17 individuals that have been sanctioned already".

A D.C. neighborhood advocacy group is having its say in what US officials have described as an elaborate global murder plot. This struck lawmakers as odd, considering the Central Intelligence Agency recently concluded that Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered Khashoggi's murder, and the senators had some follow-up questions.

"The United States can no longer turn a blind eye to this conflict because we are a party to it".

The prince is also under fire for the Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

But only one of the 14 Republicans who voted to move ahead with the Yemen resolution has been briefed. If the Council passes the measure, it's still subject to congressional review.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains also expressed his disappointment about the announcement. Lordstown Assembly in OH , shown here in 2008, is one of the plants at which General Motors plans to cut production in 2019.

CIA Director Gina Haspel didn't attend a Senate briefing on the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and the Saudi war in Yemen.

However, Khashoggi's brutal killing at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul has developed into a "major scandal" that endangers the US' "multi-billion dollar arms sales with Saudi Arabia", Colin Cavell, associate professor of political science at Bluefield State College, said. Graham voted to advance the resolution.

However, Pompeo and Mattis did not seem to sway leading Senate foreign policy voices, including some of Trump's fellow Republicans, who said they believed taking no action would send a more risky message to the world.

Congress still has some important work to do before the holidays.

"The CIA looked at it", Trump tells journalists at the White House. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters. I needed to see what was said. But he said he believes the Senate should "figure out some way for us to send the appropriate message to Saudi Arabia that appropriately displays American values and American national interests". In March, the proposal failed 55-44.

"It's a major rebuke of the Trump administration and of Secretary Pompeo in particular, who this morning made his case about why the U.S. support for the Saudi operations in Yemen were so critical", he told Al Jazeera. His language was blunt in a Wall Street Journal article, writing that Khashoggi's murder "has heightened the Capitol Hill caterwauling and media pile-on".

In its petition, the organisation argued that Mohammed, widely known as MBS, was ultimately responsible for several international-law violations because Saudi troops had conducted "indiscriminate and disproportionate" attacks on civilians.

The report quoted Egyptian diplomatic sources as saying that the two leaders were attempting to convince as many Arab nations as possible to be neutral toward Israel and to accept economic relations with it, "or at the very least, a state of no war", as part of a broader effort to promote acceptance of US President Donald Trump's so-called "Deal of the Century", aimed at ending the Israeli-Arab conflict.
