Comey Says House Committees Mostly Asked About Clinton Email Probe

As Mueller investigation heats up, Trump unleashes barrage of tweets attacking investigators

Comey appeared for the interview after unsuccessfully fighting a subpoena in court. GOP lawmakers who stepped outside while the questioning was underway indicated they weren't satisfied and will bring him back later this month.

While Comey praised Trump's nominee for attorney general, William Barr, he blasted Trump's repeated public gripes with the justice system.

"Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told reporters that some lawmakers have been frustrated with the testimony so far and that Comey didn't seem upset about being told by his lawyers that he doesn't have to answer certain questions", writes Fox News.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.), for his part, disputed the argument that Comey dodged questions. They argued that a closed hearing was 'abusive to witnesses'. But he added that he was left with the impression that "we got nowhere today".

Comey said that by the time of his firing, the Federal Bureau of Investigation had not come to a conclusion about whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia's efforts to sway the presidential election.

Asked when he learned that the firm behind the dossier, Fusion GPS, was hired by law firm Perkins Coie - and when he learned that law firm was hired by the Democratic National Committee - Comey said "I never learned that" while director. "We should be talking about the Russian Federation investigation [instead], and quite frankly obstruction of justice".

Comey agreed to return December 17, but questioned what more Republicans would want to know.

Huawei executive arrested in Canada for 'violating USA sanctions on Iran'
American officials have sought to persuade other nations to curb business ventures with Huawei because of security concerns. Stephen Innes, head of Asia-Pacific trading at investment firm Oanda, linked the losses directly to Meng's arrest.

Comey has been under fire for using his personal Gmail for government business - while investigating Clinton for her private email misuse. He said her actions were extremely careless but did not rise to a criminally prosecutable offense.

Under a deal struck with the Judiciary Committee, Comey was to be free to speak about Friday's questioning afterward and a transcript was to be released. Republicans were able to hold onto their majority in the Senate.

"This is a waste of time to start with", he said. "The entire objective of this investigation is to cast aspersions on the real investigation, which is Mueller".

The hearing wrapped up shortly after, when it was supposed to end around 5 p.m. ET.

Committee lawyers fought back at Comey's "grandiose" arguments, saying he wanted to 'dictate the terms of his appearance by demanding a public hearing'. He has since become a vocal critic of the president and has periodically opined on the ongoing investigation against him.

When asked if the FBI had any evidence that anyone in the Trump campaign conspired to hack the DNC server, Comey gave a lengthy answer referring to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation as to why he couldn't answer.

Comey, who has testified publicly on Capitol Hill about both the Clinton and Russian Federation investigations, balked at the subpoena because he said committees were prone to selectively reveal information for political purposes. He said that move was in the name of their combined desire for transparency. Comey was in charge of both investigations.
