Trump surprises US troops in Iraq

Donald Trump visits US troops in Iraq for first trip to a conflict zone

President Donald Trump used a surprise visit to Iraq to defend his decision to withdraw USA forces from Syria where they have been helping battle Islamic State militants.

U.S. President Donald Trump met with a half dozen U.S. Air Force leaders based in Germany while aboard Air Force One at Ramstein Air Base, early Thursday (December 27) during a brief stopover while en route to Washington after his surprise Christmas visit to Iraq.

Trump, making his first presidential visit to troops in a troubled region, said it's because the USA military had all but eliminated IS-controlled territory in both Iraq and Syria that he chose to withdraw 2,000 forces from Syria.

It comes a week after Mr Trump stunned his national security advisers by announcing that he would withdraw U.S. troops from neighbouring Syria where they have been fighting Islamic State militants.

Kosachev stressed the necessity at all levels to tell Washington that military action in a neighboring country without the consent of its leadership and the UN Security Council's mandate amounts to coercive intervention in a sovereign state's affairs and fulfilling the mission of a global policeman, which no one assigned to Washington. Qais Khazali, a one-time detainee of the Americans who formed a Shi'ite militia and then became a political leader as well, said that Iraq's parliament should vote to remove U.S. forces from the country.

Trump vowed that his administration will give a "harsh response" if America faced another terrorist attack.

Syrian air defenses confront Israeli missiles above Damascus
Tuesday's attack is the first since a missile assault on the southern outskirts of Damascus on November 29. Lebanon's National News Agency reported that Israel Air Force planes were operating over southern Lebanon.

Al-Shimiri said Trump's visit "violated several diplomatic norms". "The United States can not continue to be the policeman of the world", he repeated to reporters, describing a long-term vision of detached isolationism embodied by his controversial decision last week to pull thousands of US troops from Syria and Afghanistan.

However, it was not only his political statements that stirred hot debate in the United States: another Boxing Day newsmaker was the First Lady, specifically her footwear choice and her kiss with the hubby, which some observers called "ridiculous". "I had concerns for the first lady, I will tell you". "You've had enough time", he said he told the top brass. "If you don't withdraw, we have the experience and the ability to remove them in another way", he added. We've knocked them silly, ' he said. And others will do it too. With the exception of the Kurdish autonomous region, much of Iraq is hostile in one way or another to the US presence, either due to historic reasons such as lingering support for Saddam Hussein, or because of US-Iran tensions or perceived US abuses during the 2003-2011 US role in Iraq.

"We've been here, and if you look at Afghanistan, 19 years", the USA president said, imposing a new timeline on the American presence in Afghanistan, which, has been acknowledged officially as having lasted 17 years so far, starting in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

Qais Khazali, the head of the Iran-backed Asaib Ahl al-Haq militia that fought key battles against IS in north Iraq, promised on Twitter that parliament would vote to expel United States forces from Iraq, or the militia and others would force them out by "other means".

USA soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division fire artillery in support of Iraqi forces fighting Islamic State militants from their base east of Mosul, Iraq, April 17, 2017. Among other examples, Trump in May 2017 famously revealed Israeli intelligence details in a private conversation with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. just hours after Trump had fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

"We don't want to be taken advantage of any more by countries that use us and use our incredible military to protect them". Let's go. Take more time.' Constantly giving them more time.
