Rick Scott sides with Trump on lifting Russian Federation sanctions; Marco Rubio doesn't

Three metals companies tied to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska will have US sanctions lifted unless the Senate reverses its decision by Friday

"Treasury sanctioned these companies due to their ownership and control by sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, not for the conduct of the companies themselves". Roy Blunt of Missouri and Pat Roberts of Kansas.

Plans to remove the sanctions are not politically motivated, but were negotiated with the assistance of longtime civil servants at Treasury, Mnuchin told reporters Tuesday after meeting with Senate Republicans. But under President Donald Trump, who has even talked to aides about the possibility of the USA withdrawing from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation - a move that would clearly thrill the Kremlin - that's no longer the case. Newly minted Sen. Rick Scott joined a majority of his GOP colleagues to block the vote.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had dismissed the resolution as a "Democratic stunt" and urged members of his party to vote against it.

The US House of Representatives on Thursday endorsed a resolution to block the Treasury Department from moving forward with its plans to ease sanctions on three Russian companies, EN+, Rusal and Eurosibenergo. But the president knows better than anyone how easily such limits can be skirted in reality while complied with on paper.

"It's all collusion", Steele responded when asked if the move to squash the vote was "collusion-y". He said the sanctions "shouldn't be a political issue". The minority has stated the Senate should not consider any legislation that does not reopen the government.

Bill Browder, a British-American businessman whose company Hermitage Capital Management was seized by the Russian state, argues that Thursday's vote is a sign that "the American people don't want to give Putin any gifts".

Get ready for Super blood wolf moon
You will be able to see the eclipse with the naked eye, but if you have binoculars, take them out of the drawer for a better view. Super moons will look about 7 percent bigger than an average full moon (and 12 to 14 percent bigger than a full moon at apogee).

Canadians treated to total lunar eclipse and supermoon Sunday night
There's no violence involved, instead, the term comes from a reddening of moon, as light leaks around the edge of Earth. With all the traces of direct sunlight gone, the moon will glow a shade of fiery orange for over an hour.

Taiwan stages live-fire military exercises after China threats
But Beijing considers it to be a wayward province and has never ruled out military force to bring it under control. "We reserve the option for all the necessary means".

I will update this post as needed with any public explanation Grassley or Ernst provide for helping lift sanctions on Deripaska's companies.

"There is no good reason for the USA government to lift sanctions on one of the most compromised Russian oligarchs around".

Hawley's vote was more surprising, given that he'd previously declined to name any issue on which he and Trump might differ. These companies have committed to significantly diminish Deripaska's ownership and sever his control. Susan Collins of ME, one of the Republicans who voted with Democrats, said after the first vote. "Until we know for certain that Deripaska no longer has control over these entities, we need to maintain the pressure".

Deripaska had ties with Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign manager, documents have shown.

Congress has the power to reject any lessening of sanctions on Russian Federation, but only if it has enough votes. The administration first delayed putting sanctions on the companies into effect and then announced last month it would lift them entirely.

"In so many campaigns for president, we Democrats were accused of not being tough enough on the Russians". Manafort is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to conspiracy against the United States. A similar measure narrowly failed in the Senate this week, despite 11 Republicans breaking ranks to vote with Democrats.

You'd think they would, but they haven't. In introducing that resolution, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland noted that "Mr. Deripaska has been key to much of the malign activities Russian Federation directs against the United States, and the Congress must protect the American people against foreign interference and corruption".
