2018 was 4th warmest, but next 5 years could break records

NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) announced today that 2018 was the fourth hottest year worldwide on record. The report coming from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

In Phoenix, 2018 was the seventh-warmest year on record, according to the National Weather Service.

According to NOAA, 2018 was Arizona's second warmest year ever recorded, one of a dozen states with similarly high temperature averages.

"2018 is yet again an extremely warm year on top of a long-term global warming trend". The report stated that much of the warming can be attributed to an increase in carbon emissions from human activity.

Nasa's data was compiled by 6,300 weather stations around the world and was compared against information stretching back to 1880. From last year's devastating hurricanes and coastal floods to last week's polar vortex, scientists already have plenty of disastrous phenomena to hold up as immediately evident repercussions of manmade environmental damage. NOAA and NASA noted that sea surface temperatures were also increasing.

While 2018 was slightly cooler than the three prior years, Earth still had its fourth-warmest year since scientists began keeping records in 1880, the federal agencies said. We're no longer talking about a situation where global warming is something in the future. It's easy, if someone is skeptical to look at a hot year and say it's meaningless, we've been here before.

The drugs were detected by USA authorities on January 9 with 25kgs of cocaine and 5kgs of heroin also located. Three fronted court on Friday on charges including attempted drug importation and possession.

"Weather dynamics often affect regional temperatures, so not every region on Earth experienced similar amounts of warming", said NOAA.

This also means Toronto's temperature rose above the global average.

Last year, 29 countries - including much of Europe and the Middle East - and the continent of Antarctica had their hottest years on record, said Zeke Hausfather, a climate scientist with the nonprofit research organization.

Scientists believe that without a rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the warming trend will continue and the effects of climate change more severe. That's 1.42 degrees (0.79 Celsius) warmer than the 20th century average.

If a warming planet were an Olympic sport, fourth wouldn't make the podium. "These included the awful wildfires in California and the devastating hurricanes Florence and Michael, all of which bear the fingerprints of climate change".
