Jennifer Lopez's Motown tribute was a Grammys 2019 low point

Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez at grammys 2019

"Grammy failed on the Motown tribute #GRAMMYs".

But despite being joined on stage by Smokey Robinson, Alicia Keys and her fellow "World of Dance" judge Ne-Yo, Lopez's performance was a dud for many people watching at home, who previously expressed irritation with a non-Black performer headlining the tribute.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the announcement that Lopez would be leading the tribute to honor the record label's 60th anniversary invited arguments that the Bronx native was not the ideal selection to celebrate a record company consisting predominantly of Black artists. "[The Grammys organizers] know how much I have been influenced by that music and so it was a natural fit for them", she noted. "For some people, [it wasn't], and that's okay".

Lopez responded to the criticism by saying the songs were important to her family growing up, and that race shouldn't have played a role in her choice to perform.

But her dramatic reaction could be just Lady Gaga's attempt to poke more fun at Ryan for his poor interview skills. Plus, her wavy almost-white blonde hair and simple makeup look was the cherry on top of a flawless Grammys sundae.

Early previous year , it announced its first strategic partnership with Volkswagen Group to bring self-driving cars to market. The funding round was led by venture capital firm Sequoia, whose partner Carl Eschenbach will join Aurora's board .

Yet the 49-year-old superstar was the one who sexily led the Motown Records tribute at the 2019 Grammy Awards - so, naturally, people were upset about it.

Sorry. I'm not letting that Motown tribute go. Motown churned out Black artist after Black artist who became icons of music in a time when Black people were combating overt racism on the daily.

Lopez said the surprise "really blew (her) away", and that while Gaines admitted she didn't typically offer this kind of help, she'd weigh in the couple's design decisions. Motown's stable of singers, songwriters, producers and musicians took the concept of simple, catchy pop songs to a whole new level of sophistication and, thanks to the music's roots in gospel and blues, visceral intensity... "I could cry. It's such a good moment", she smiled. In a lengthy social media post, the "Cruisin'" singer ripped everyone and anyone who protested Lopez because she wasn't black. This was the definition of self determination. Personally, I tried to give the performance a chance, but the truth is, I squinted through most of it, my shoulders tense, and my soul crying for Fantasia. The SOUL? What did you all think of the performance and backlash? Jennifer, though, is taking it all in her stride.
