Donations pour in for boy thrown from Mall of America balcony

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda thegrio

Witnesses said Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, pushed or threw the 5-year-old boy on Friday morning from the third-floor balcony of the mall's interior to the first floor, almost 40 feet below, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said in a news conference on Saturday, April 13.

Records show that Aranda has a history of assault and bad behavior at the Mall of America, a sprawling complex in the Twin Cities suburb of Bloomington, Minnesota, that hosts hundreds of retail stores, restaurants, an amusement park and aquarium and draws 40 million visitors a year.

At a press conference earlier Friday, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said police responded to the southeast court at the mall around 10:17 a.m.

A witness told WCCO that the child's mother was heard screaming after the incident.

"'She was screaming 'Everyone pray, everyone pray".

It has been reported that Landen Hoffmann from Woodbury, Minnesota, was tossed to the marble ground beneath the balcony on Friday (12 April) as his mum screamed: "Oh my God, my baby - someone threw him over the edge".

The man accused of the heinous act - identified as Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, - was later found hiding inside the mall's transit station.

Aranda lives in the Bloomington area and has had a series of arrests and convictions related to the mall.

A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident that happened Friday.

"We do not believe that the suspect knew the family or the victim". 'The child has been transported to the hospital and has been receiving care'.

Onlookers said a woman began shouting after the child was attacked.

'Please pray for my cousins attractive son Landen, ' she wrote.

Aranda was banned from the mall for one year.

Witnesses told law enforcement that they saw Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, of Bloomington, Minn., shove or hurl the young child from the third interior level on the Bloomington Mall side to its first on Friday morning.

Witnesses told police that the alleged attacker "took off running immediately after the incident".

Potts believes this most recent incident is isolated and said the Mall of America continues to be a very safe place to go. We know that this is a concerning event for all of us. He was charged in two previous incidents at the mall in 2015.

The woman refused, and Aranda allegedly threw a glass of water in her face and a glass of tea that struck her leg.
