Iran facing 'unprecedented' pressure from global sanctions, Rouhani says

U.S. Is Threatening Iran on the Basis of ‘Fake Intelligence,’ Iran's U.N. Ambassador Warns, as American Warships Near Arabian Sea

Last week, the United States deployed forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to counter what it says is a rising threat from Iran to U.S. forces.

USS Arlington, which transports marines, amphibious vehicles, conventional landing craft and rotary aircraft, and the Patriot air defence system will join the Abraham Lincoln carrier group, Pentagon says.

A United States warship, USS Arlington, with amphibious vehicles and aircraft on board, is also joining the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group in the Gulf.

The carrier and a B-52 bomber task force were ordered towards the Gulf, as Washington reiterated that intelligence reports suggested Iran was planning some sort of attack in the region.

"The [current] pressures by enemies are a war unprecedented in the history of our Islamic revolution".

Others landed on May 8 at an undisclosed location in "southwest Asia", the Air Force said.

Washington has not elaborated on the alleged threat, drawing criticism that it is overreacting and unnecessarily driving up tensions in the region.

Iran has dismissed the United States military buildup as "psychological warfare" created to intimidate it.

The US-Iran escalation has put into question the future of the 2015 nuclear deal that Iran signed with Germany and the UN Security Council's five permanent members: US, UK, France, Russia and China.

President Trump said he is still willing to negotiate deals with Iran if they abandon their nuclear program.

Trump says 'very surprised' by son's subpoena in Russian Federation probe
President Donald Trump says he's "very surprised" that the Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed his eldest son. Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, appeared for a second closed-door session in late March.

Washington responded to Iran's decision to renege on key facets of the historic accord by imposing anti-Iranian sanctions.

In a statement, US Central Command said: "The Department of Defense continues to closely monitor the activities of the Iranian regime, their military and proxies". According to sources close to the matter, Intelligence was warned Tehran approved proxy forces to attack USA personnel and assets in the region.

"We don't want them to have nuclear weapons - not much to ask", he said.

We urge European leaders to take such threats seriously, and to stand tall in the face of Iran's nefarious intentions.

But in a softer approach, Trump told reporters on Thursday at the White House: "What I would like to see with Iran, I would like to see them call me".

Iran's Revolutionary Guards responded, saying that Tehran would not negotiate with the United States - and a senior cleric warned that the USA navy fleet headed toward the Gulf could be "destroyed with one missile".

"Our restraint to this point should not be mistaken by Iran for a lack of resolve", he said, adding however: "We do not seek war".

The United States reimposed sanctions on Iran in November after pulling out of a 2015 nuclear accord between Tehran and six world powers past year, although it allowed Tehran's biggest buyers to continuing buying some crude oil via waivers for another six months.

Administration officials said the sanctions are created to bite Iran's economy beyond the oil sector, which provides most of the nation's wealth, and that Mr. Trump is prepared to go further if provoked.
